Quadraphonic recordings from Biella (with Attila Faravelli and Enrico Malatesta) (contributed to Archive.org)
44'15, Quadraphonic
2017

https://archive.org/details/AA_Quad_Recs_Biella

Quadraphonic recordings made in collaboration with Attila Faravelli, Enrico Malatesta and the participants* of their 5 day UNIDEE workshop 'The Dance of Attention: What happens as soon as we press 'record' on a device', within and around the site of Cittadellarte Fondazione Pistoletto, Biella, July 2017.

The recording activities assumed the practical component of my presentation as guest tutor, and served to underline some spatial principles and recording technicalities.
The initial premise on my part, was to invite the participants to formulate their own choreographies with capice shell mobiles (that I provided) to best compliment the given microphone array**.

However, far more interesting interactions and results were produced when turning to different tools (in the case of the Terzo Paradiso / former Trombetta wool mill (above), with steel balls provided by Enrico) or the terrain itself (in the case of the former Goldmine, with it's unstable bouldery ground and unreflective acoustic)

*Participants were:

Caterina Giansiracusa, Sula Chiovenda, Natalia Ludmila, Annalisa Zegna, Alessandra Carosi, Manolo Liuzzi, Cecilia Guida, Ariane Téodoridis.

**Using the following chains:

Former Goldmine:
4 x Sennheiser MKH 406T microphones in IRT Cross > SQN 4S IIIa (modified for direct outputs) > Sound Devices 744T

Terzo Paradiso / former Trombetta wool mill (above/below):
4 x Sennheiser MKH 8020 microphones (in approx 70cm, equidistant cross) > SQN 4S IIIa (modified for direct outputs) > Sound Devices 744T

For correct quadraphonic imaging and loudspeaker orientation
1 = L, 2 = R, 3 = Rs, 4 = Ls
